Generous Donation to Meehan Memorial Lansing Public Library 12 25 2011
The library was honored to receive over 80 non-fiction books from Dr. James H. Peck. He is a retired Herbarium from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He is a native of Davenport and his second love is studying history. He retired and needed to downsize his library and we are grateful he thought of our library. He was in Lansing over a year ago scouting out area libraries.
The books are brand new and we are guessing the original investment in the collection to be over $2400. Many are rare and very selective in content. The subjects of the books include: Upper Mississippi River Valley History, Indian Lore, Fur Trading, Black Hawk War, Mound Builders, The War of 1812, The Journals of Zebulon Montgomery Pike, the frontier movement and much more.
